FRIDAY, August 5th

2:00 p.m. – Registration Opens
3:00 p.m. – Welcome to the Getaway!
3:30 p.m. – Session I

  • MY FAVORITE THINGS – Dora Ann Purdy – Room 200A
    Come to this session to discover and experience some of my favorite, child-tested musical things, including energizers, movement activities, welcome songs, rhythm activities, and much more.
  • TIPS AND TRICKS FOR TERRIFIC REHEARSALS – Terry Taylor – Choir Room
    Learn tips and tricks for structuring your rehearsal time and space in ways that will engage children in purposeful, learning fun. This session will also address learning modes, multiple intelligences, teaching with the brain in mind, and classroom management. We will also show fun, easy ways to include digital projection into your choir sessions.
  • LET’S GET MOVING – Paula Farrar and Carol Dickerson – Room 207
    Come ready to get off your feet and MOVE. Participate in movement activities that teach steady beat, encourage singing, and build community.

  • LET’S GO “STEP BY STEP” THROUGH STEP-BY- STEP: TIPS, TOOLS, & TEMPLATES FOR CHILDREN’S CHOIR MINISTRY – Dora Ann Purdy – Room 200A
    Let’s talk about the importance of the Be Strong in the Lord theme as well as unpacking theme materials and making a plan for a kick-off event.
  • BE STRONG IN THE LORD – PRESCHOOL, PART 1 – Carol Dickerson – Room 207
    Let’s sing some great music for preschoolers and review some wonderful resources and materials. We will also explore ideas for planning your Christmas music and programs. Be ready to move, sing, and play instruments as we expand on the foundations of musical and spiritual growth.
    BE STRONG IN THE LORD – YOUNGER CHILDREN, PART 1 – Paula Farrar – Room 201
    Let’s sing some great music for younger children and review some wonderful resources and materials. We will also explore ideas for planning your Christmas music and programs. Be ready to move, sing, and play instruments as we expand on the foundations of musical and spiritual growth.
  • BE STRONG IN THE LORD – OLDER CHILDREN, PART 1 – Terry Taylor – Choir Room
    Let’s sing some great music for older children and review some wonderful resources and materials. We will also explore ideas for planning your Christmas music and programs. Be ready to move, sing, and play instruments as we expand on the foundations of musical and spiritual growth.

6:15 p.m. – BBQ Love Feast
7:15 p.m. – Drumming with Percussionist Carol James – Room 208

Bring your very own buckets, rhythm sticks, and enthusiasm, and we’ll learn how to make everyday items look, sound, and feel like instruments. This drumming adventure will have you playing as you learn rhythms, songs, and music that you can take back to your choirs and teach immediately.
You’ll learn proper playing and movement techniques, a bit of African, and get lots of ideas and resources you can use with your choirs during rehearsals and in a worship setting!

SATURDAY, August 6th

9:00 a.m. – Get-Up- and-Go Energizer
9:30 a.m. – Session III

  • CHOIR COORDINATORS – Dora Ann Purdy – Room 200A
    What are the issues you are facing in your church regarding children’s choir ministry? This session will be a forum for expressing concerns and discussing ways to address the issues in a safe and caring environment.
  • BE STRONG IN THE LORD – PRESCHOOL, PART 2 – Carol Dickerson – Room 207
    We will continue to review some wonderful music, resources, and materials for preschoolers. We will also explore ideas for planning your Christmas music and programs. Be ready to move, sing, and play instruments as we expand on the foundations of musical and spiritual growth.

  • “THE DOT” AND OTHER REASONS WE DO WHAT WE DO – Dora Ann Purdy – Room 200A
    Do you need to be encouraged to keep on keeping on? Come explore the reasons we “do” children’s music ministry. There will be opportunities for you to be refreshed as well as learn some tips for being an advocate for the children in your church as we lay foundations for spiritual and musical growth of our young musicians.
  • CHILDREN AND WORSHIP – Terry Taylor – Choir Room
    We will explore ways to help children grow as worshipers and worship leaders, and share ideas for guiding children to develop a lifestyle of worship. We will also share a specific worship features perfectly suited for children to lead in authentic, authentic worship.
  • LET’S GET CREATIVE – Carol Dickerson and Paula Farrar – Room 207
    Shopping for Dollar Tree finds with Music Activities in mind. Come ready to create an activity that teaches a musical concept, using inexpensive items from the local bargain store.

12:15 p.m. – Super Salad and Baked Potato Bar
1:15 p.m. – Unplugged: #DaretoDisconnect Sing Along and Read Through – Sanctuary
2:15 p.m. – Talk Back with the Team – Sanctuary
2:45 p.m. – Getaway Giveaways and Goodbye Hugs
